The Digital Emirates Library Project has been officially launched in Dubai by Shaikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, the Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development. This is believed to be among the most important projects launched by the Ministry to improve electronic dissemination of intellectual and cognitive content.
The project will focus on spreading works by Emirati writers, authors and creators across the world. It aims to offer access to a million books in local, international culture and scientific fields, he said, during the official launch at the Ministry’s Culture Wing at Abu Dhabi International Book Fair.
According to Sheikh Nahyan, the project is in-line with UAE’s shift towards dissemination of technical culture and its dependency on electronic transactions driven by the President, HH Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai, HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al MAktoum, and the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of UAE Armed Forces, HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
According to Shaikh Nahyan, the importance of the library is that it provides the most important books, and local, Arab and international information sources on the internet, which benefits readers in various parts of the world, and delivers faster information through an easily accessible national interactive electronic platform to build cognitive infrastructure to encourage industry and dissemination of knowledge of the UAE.
Shaikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan has called all institutions and publishing houses to join UAE Digital Library. More than a million books will be available at your fingertips with the launch of the library. The project is aimed at spreading cultural and scientific knowledge on a digital platform, and focuses on works from Emirati creators, writers and authors.
