The Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai, HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, unveiled logo of Expo 2020 in the presence of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai and Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Deputy Ruler of Dubai.
The inaugural ceremony also involved the presence of thousands of nationals in the UAE, residents, and visitors across the world. Launched in Downtown Dubai, the new logo has been projected onto Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building. The new logo draws inspiration from the antique factory gold ornaments discovered in 2002 in the Saruq Al Hadid, the archaeological site.
The logo comprises a compilation of patterns of inscriptions and artifacts of Emirati civilization, which dates back to 4000 years. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed honoured three finalists in the new logo design contest launched in April during the ceremonial unveiling of the logo.
The new logo is based on a 4000-year old antique piece of jewellery found at ‘Sarouq Al Hadeed’, an ancient archaeological site, discovered by Sheikh Mohammed in 2002 in Al Marmum area.
Sheikh Mohammed said that an authentic Emirati logo has been chosen for Dubai Expo 2020, which draws inspiration from a civilisation that existed 4000 years ago in an area extending from Baynounah in Abu Dhabi to Sarouq Al Hadeed in Dubai and from Maliha Valley in Sharjah to the mountains of Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah. The land linked ancient civilizations and will continue to be a hub connecting the world.
Sheikh Mohammed pointed out that the Expo 2020 logo reflects the clear message about the deep roots of our civilization to the world.
The Director General of Dubai Expo 2020 Office, Reem Al Hashimy said that the logo also reflects Dubai’s aspirations for a better world, which can be achieved only through co-operation and a meaningful exchange of ideas.
Al Hashimy expressed gratitude to all those who contributed to the success of the event and those who participated in the logo competition.
