Dubai to develop a new high-speed urban ropeway transport system

27 July 2021

A new deal signed in Dubai will see authorities explore the development of an urban ropeway.

Dubai has signed a deal with concerned authorities to develop an urban ropeway.

Dubai’s RTA (Roads and Transport Authority) has entered into a deal with French mobility specialist MND, a leading company in the ropeways industry.
The CABLINE system developed by MND aims to offer a “completely new experience” for aerial transportation. It is designed to integrate and connect to city’s current inter-modal transport network. This fully automatic driverless transport system has self-propelled cabins moving over ropes at speeds of nearly 45km per hour.

It uses minimal infrastructure that is easy to integrate with least possible footprint. It is more aesthetic, quieter and more energy sufficient than the traditional ropeway transportation.

CABLINE also helps with easy maintenance which guarantee high availability rate of urban transport system and offers optimal service for passengers.
This deal is part of RTA’s efforts to fulfil Dubai’s vision to make 25 percent of all trips self-driven by the year 2030.

The CEO of Rail Agency, Abdul Mohsin Ibrahim Younes said “Developing advanced innovative transport systems and improving the sustainable transport network in Dubai would encourage more people and visitors to use public transport.”

MND is a leading group for ropeways infrastructure which is working on high-speed system. This CABLINE system by MND is flexible, is energy-saving, and does not have much impact on urban environment.

The CEO of MND, Xavier Gallot-Lavallee said that the CABLINE technology which is under development in the ropeways design centre is based in the French Alps, and it could lead to a new urban transportation experience.

The engineering team has been working in the past years to finalize design and make the CABLINE a unique, disruptive technology to ease urban mobility.
This deal is among the several other deals that the RTA has been planning to explore as futuristic models of transport for the emirate.

For instance, in the month of June, the authority signed a deal to explore developing a suspended transport network.

In the month of April, it was announced that Dubai would be the first city outside the US to operate Cruise driverless taxis.
