New workweek adopted across the UAE from 1st Jan 2022

The governments of six emirates in the UAE have adopted the new workweek in local government sector. The system, which is likely to be implemented across all Federal government entities in the UAE from 1st January 2022, is aimed at achieving UAE’s vision to remain atop international rends and continue making progress on global competitiveness indicators across all sectors.

New weekend

The new workweek will now be from Monday to Thursday, with Friday being a half-day. The working hours of employees will be from 7.30am to 3.30pm Monday through Thursday and will be until 12pm on Fridays.

All six emirates, including Dubai, Abu Dhabi, RAK, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah, have announced adoption of new systems from the new year.
However, Sharjah will see the transition into a four-day workweek from 1st January 2022, with Friday, Saturday and Sunday being the new weekend.
