Dubai to adopt first-of-its-kind automated Driving test methods

25 April 2016

The driving tests in Dubai are bound to undergo some changes shortly.

It is said that measures are being taken to ensure that the “yard test” would be conducted without having an examiner to sit within the test vehicle. According to the RTA, by doing so, the driver confidence would be boosted, and thereby will reduce accidents.

Speaking to the media, the Director of Drivers Training and Qualification Department, Arif Al Malik, said that the yard test (includes parallel, garage, angle parking, emergency brake and slope) in the near future would be fully automated tests, without having an examiner sitting within the test vehicle.

This will also ensure fair and accurate driving testing. Moreover, it will prepare the applicant for ‘solo’ driving, which will boost their confidence when going in for the driving license, and will eventually result in lesser traffic accidents, he added. Such a system would be the first in the world, wherein such ‘state-of-the-art technology’ is not used elsewhere till now, and would be vigorously tested to meet high safety standards, he concluded.
