04 March 2022

The UAE agrees that Ukrainian Passport holders continue to be eligible for arrival visas to the Gulf State.

The UAE relies on Russia and Ukraine for its wheat exports, which is home to 15,000 Ukrainian residents, out of its 8 million foreign residents and 1 million nationals.

Prior to the onset of coronavirus pandemic, a quarter-million Ukrainian tourists visited the UAE. Just like is the case with other Gulf Arab states, the UAE does not recognize individuals fleeing war and does not permit refugees from Iraq, Syria and other wars to seek asylum or seek resettlement.

The UAE is home to Abu Dhabi and Dubai, which abstained from a UN Security Council vote last week condemning Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine. It is also the Chair of the Security Council.
