Repatriation flights from four new Indian destinations to Dubai

20 July 2020

The Emirates Airlines has announced that it will operate repatriation flights from four additional Indian cities to Dubai until 26th July.

The Dubai-based airline has announced on 11th July that it would operate special repatriation flights from Bengaluru, Delhi, Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram and Mumbai to Dubai between 12th July and 26th July.

Now, the airline will be operating repatriation flights to Dubai from a total of nine Indian cities until 26th July.

In a press release on Sunday, the airline said that the repatriation flights between Kochi, Delhi, Mumbai, Dubai and Thiruvananthapuram are allowed to carry eligible passengers in both directions.

However, the flights from the cities Bengaluru, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Kolkata and Hyderabad will carry only outbound passengers from India, the airline said.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation on 9th July said that the UAE and India have entered into a bilateral arrangement, also called air bubble, wherein, airlines of both countries will operate international flights carrying eligible passengers.

The charter flights operated by the UAE carriers will be now allowed to bring in Indian nationals from the UAE to India and carry “ICA-approved UAE residents” on their return leg, the Ministry said.

The ICA stands for UAE’s Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship. AS for India to UAE flights, all the flights will carry passengers whoa re destined for the Gulf country only.

India resumed its domestic passenger flights from 25th May after a span of two months, owing to the coronavirus-triggered lockdown. Although scheduled international passenger flights still continue to remain suspended in India since 23rd March, India has established bilateral air bubbles with four countries, namely, the US, France, the UAE and Germany, wherein, airlines from both countries are allowed to operate international passenger flights with certain restrictions.
