UAE ranked as region’s best in handling Covid-19 pandemic efficiently

The UAE has so far won several accolades for setting new benchmarks for the world in its fight against Covid-19 and confronting the challenges head-on.

Now, adding another feather to its cap is the fact that UAE has topped the Middle East region, and is 14th in the world in efficient handling of the Covid-19 pandemic, according to a global ranking.

This forms part of the Global Soft Power Index, the world’s most comprehensive research study based on perceptions of nation brands. As per the request by Brand Finance, 75,000 respondents from the general public and 750 specialists replied to queries about handling of Covid-19 by 105 countries across the globe.

The UAE was ranked the highest in the survey across the Middle East region, and 14th globally, scoring +33 percent, which indicates that the UAE handled the pandemic in a better manner than its neighbours, Saudi Arabia and Qatar, which had net scores of +24 percent and +29 percent respectively.

Sharing this news report by Brand Finance, HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai appreciated the nation’s effort in combating the virus.

He further tweeted that as per the survey by the Global Soft Power Index, issued by Brand Finance from Britain, this was done through a questionnaire sent out to 105 countries across the world. The UAE was ranked first in the Middle East and 14th in the world in their efficiency of dealing with Covid-19 pandemic.

While expressing his happiness, HH Sheikh Mohammed also said that to be acknowledged by Global Soft Power Index, which is known for holding world’s most comprehensive research study, is also a clear evidence of the efficiency and good performance by the UAE.

Appreciating the efforts by the UAE for its distinguished response to the pandemic, Sherif Beshara, the CEO of American hospital in Dubai said that apart from executing the national sterilization campaign, and intensifying awareness campaigns on social distancing and hygiene, the UAE has also been a global leader in several laboratory tests for the population.

Among the several measures taken to contain the spread of the virus were the application isolation and quarantine programmes for people entering the country, ensuring a 15-25 days recovery period, with a possible extension until 35 days if required.

Beshara said that multiple benefits have been received due to the constant cooperation between the private and public sector health institutions in the UAE.

Over the past months, there has been lot of importance in harnessing the strengths of artificial intelligence in healthcare.

Analyzing big data in order to ensure the development of smart treatment systems, developing preventive systems through the pursuit of vigilant health system that monitor diseases, epidemics and their stages, are of immeasurable value in improving the outcomes for environmental and occupational health,” he said.
