Carrefour is one of the largest French hypermarket chains with stores around the world, including hypermarkets and supermarkets in Dubai, and other emirates in the UAE. Carrefour is the world’s second largest retailer, and the largest in Europe, with operations in 32 countries, with over 9500 stores.
Over the past 40 years, the Carrefour group has grown to be one of the world's leading distribution groups. Carrefour is the world’s second-largest retailer and largest in Europe, with the group currently operating in four main grocery store formats – hypermarkets, cash & carry, supermarkets, and convenience stores. Over the years now, the Carrefour group has grown to be one of the world's leading distribution groups.
Carrefour Product Range
Apart from the large range of food and grocery products, Carrefour hypermarkets also sell clothes, shoes, meeting family needs, toys and games, garden equipment and furniture, rugs and carpets, and a range of electronic items including televisions, audio equipments, laptops, DVDs, computers, cameras, game consoles, and mobile phones.
The Carrefour product ranges on the offer include baby care products, car and automotive accessories, beauty and personal care, cleaning and detergent, computers and IT equipment, clothing and fashion accessories, Do-It-Yourself (DIY) products, frozen food products, electronics and electrical goods, fresh fruits and vegetables, groceries, garden and outdoor furniture and accessories, home appliances, home furniture and accessories, kitchen and dining ware, mobile phone and accessories, healthcare and pharmacy, office products, toys and children entertainment, television and audio products, travel and outdoor goods.
Carrefour Pricing
Often, Carrefour supermarkets are ranked consistently as the cheapest supermarkets in the city in surveys.
However, this cannot be taken for granted, as although Carrefour is probably cheaper for groceries in comparison to other supermarkets such as Spinneys or Waitrose, it is not as cheap when compared to Co-operative stores like Union Co-op and Emirates Co-op.
It is worth checking prices of larger goods too, such as home appliances, as sometimes, electronic retailers such as DG Sharaf, EMax may offer same products for lower prices. People who are really keen on researching on the prices, may sometimes find the same item priced differently in different Carrefour shops across various emirates in the UAE. However, in short, if you wish to shop for everything at a single place, then Carrefour could be the best place to go.
Carrefour Express (Carrefour Markets)
In the UAE, Carrefour supermarkets are operated by the Majid Al Futaim (MAF) Group. Carrefour Dubai and MAF together operate the UAE Carrefour Express Stores too, which are smaller versions of Carrefour Hypermarkets, but, have limited product ranges and different prices.
It should be noted that Carrefour and Carrefour Express, although share the same name and owners, the product lines are not the same. Carrefour Express is less comprehensive, particularly for non-grocery products, and the pricing are different. Also, some special offers available at Carrefour may not be available at Carrefour Express, and vice-versa.
The smaller supermarkets, operating in the name Carrefour Express have been renamed as Carrefour Markets since June 2011. They offer a good range of groceries including meat, fish, fruit and vegetables, but, do not stock a large range of non-grocery items.
Carrefour online
In September 2010, the Carrefour UAE launched an online store, which displays more than 3000 non-food items. All latest promotions, catalogues, and brochures are published online on the official Carrefour UAE website. Free deliveries are done for orders above Dh.500, and a delivery charge of Dh.12 is charged for items below Dh.500.
