| With the global economy once again on the verge of slipping back to recession, many in UAE fear another round of job cuts. However, experts say that UAE firms are already done with restructuring, and hence job losses are unlikely at the moment. According to experts in the recruitment industry, major redundancies in UAE are unlikely, as majority of firms are already done with downsizing and restructuring, and therefore, a repeat of the 2009 lay-0ffs is unexpected. However, some isolated cases of restructuring cannot be ruled out, said Cliff Single, Commercial Manager, BAC Middle East. Some experts have said that although UAE job market is improving, it is difficult to predict the future, in the present global scenario. They are of the opinion that with change in economies, various industries will be affected either positively or negatively. Hence a precise prediction is difficult. Those facing a negative impact may have to restructure their staff and occasionally lay-ff. But, if there are no drastic change in the coming months, massive lay-offs are unlikely, said Konstantina Sakellariou, Partner, Marketing & Operations Director, Stanton Chase. However, more job cuts are expected in the global market. The latest data signals that employers in the US have announced more job cuts than a year ago, which indicates little progress in the labour market following the ending of previous recession.
