Burj Dubai will open to public only in January 2010
The worlds tallest tower by Emaar Properties, the Burj Dubai, will not open to public until 4th January 2010. The date postponement has been done to coincide with the fourth anniversary of HH Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE, becoming the Ruler of Dubai.
Burj Dubai was due to be opened on 2nd December, the UAE National Day, but the opening of the tower has been now postponed by a month, said Mohammed Alabbar, Chairman, Emaar Properties.
“We decided to inaugurate the world’s tallest tower during an anniversary that is dear to the hearts of one and all,” Alabbar was quoted as saying.
In fact, Burj Dubai is a reflection of the ambitious vision set by H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, he added.
The project was originally planned to have been completed by December 2008, but was delayed due to problems with the contractor. Emaar’s statement confirms that the project would be ready by the end of the year.
As in any big project, few operational challenges could be expected with Burj too, that Emaar will have to tweak, said Saud Masud, the Dubai-based analyst at UBS.
According to Alabbar about 12,000 workers are on site to meet the completion of the tower by the planned opening date. The final height of the tower is yet to be announced, but is expected to be around 818 metres.
