The Dubai Culture this week revealed that it aims to build a Fashion and Design district and change regulation to persuade foreign artists to take up residence in new arts neighbourhood.
In a major attempt to put themselves on the global arts map with prestigious festivals, museums and exhibits, the district is being planned.
The Head at Dubai Culture – Projects and Events, Mishaal Al Gergawi, said that the billion-dollar budget has been developed in accordance to the culture in the city, and to develop necessary infrastructure for artists.
Dubai Culture aims to develop a neighbourhood dedicated to high-end design, fashion and gastronomy. The authority is also developing legislation that permits foreign artists residency rights, in case they have only part-time or non-profitable organization.
The UAE plans to set up an area of galleries and affordable housing for artists, featuring independent boutiques and selling music, fashion and jewelry.
Dubai also plans to build Kunsthal Museum, with no permanent collect within next 24 to 30 months to house temporary exhibits from around the world. Agreements have been signed with Munich, Dresden, and Berlin State Museums in Germany to provide exhibits.
Abu Dhabi is building a branch of Prais Lovre Museum, while New York’s Guggenheim is designed by renowned architects on Saadiyat Island.
Qatar also recently launched an Islamic Art Museum.
