India, the debut destination for Flydubai

Flydubai, the first budget carrier in Dubai, is scheduled to depart to five Indian destinations during second quarter of this year, depending on availability of aircraft.

The Chief Executive of the airline, Ghaith Al Ghaith, when speaking to Emirates Business, said that the airline has not received any aircraft so far, but is on schedule to launch the airline.

The launch date of the airline would be announced shortly, Ghaith confirmed. Last month, Al Ghaith had announced that the first aircraft of the airline was likely to be delivered by April, and operations would commence two weeks, thereafter.

Assisted by Emirates, the budget airline has ordered 50 planes from Boeing and four from Babcock and Brown during the Farnborough International Airshow in July last year.

“If all goes well, the airline will commence operations to five Indian destinations, including Chandigarh, Pune, Jaipur, Goa and Amritsar, with five aircrafts due for delivery in its first year of operations. The issue of flydubai’s AOC (Air Operation Certificate) is also in progress,” said an executive at General Civil Aviation Authority.

Flydubai intends to serve destinations located within four hours of flying distance from Dubai, such as Eastern Europe, India, Pakistan and parts of Africa, and hopes to serve 70 destinations by 2014.
