Great Dubai wheel is getting ready

Traffic chaos is making touring Dubai a horrible experience. How about giving tourists a 30 minute Dubai tour atop a 185-metre tall giant wheel – enabling them to view distances of up to 50 km. The Great Wheel Corporation, (GWC) the people behind the Great Dubai Wheel are all set to open in Dubailand in 2009. GWC is the same firm which designed the famous London Eye, presently the world’s tallest giant wheel at 135 metres.

The Dubai wheel will stand around 50 metres higher than the London Eye and hopes to give rides to around two million visitors every year. It will have a unique ticketing system over London. No one will queue up for the ride. Leon Heijkoop, senior consultant and head of the Dubai chapter for Great Wheel Corporation , says, “Visitors will be able to purchase a ticket with a designated boarding time. They can then wait for their turn at food and beverage stalls”.

The Dubai Wheel will have 36 orbiter capsules with a capacity to give rides to 7.5 million guests a year. The project also includes a restaurant and condominiums as well as a waiting area with food and drink outlets and play areas for children and hopes to entertain people at these facilities for at least two hours. The GWC is in discussion with airlines to provide a two – three hour shuttle facility to and from Dubailand for transit passengers.
