08 June 2018

The city of Dubai is always full of innovative ideas and ground breaking projects. Dubai’s architecture has reached new heights with the opening of the latest building that resembles an iPod.

The latest development project that is taking shape in Dubai is a smart building that is all set to open in 2018, and resembles an iPod.
Designed by James Law of James Law Cybertecture from Hong Kong, the 26-storey building, located at Business Bay has been named ‘The Pad’, which draws inspiration from the Apple iPod and scales up to the form of an iPod to a building scale.

According to James Law, the building is a new type of architecture that incorporates the technical advances which allows the occupants to program their own software for their building. The philosophy of this new type of architecture is called Cybertecture.

Located in Business Bay, the residential building has 256 apartments ranging from studios, one-bedroom apartments and one to three bedroom duplexes overlooking Dubai Canal. Inclined at 6.5 degrees the leaning tower structure acts as a design reference to the original iPod device, leaning when standing in its charging dock. Within the building, the interiors have various technologies incorporated such as biometric locks, voice control, mood lighting and mirrors that monitor your health.

The Pad is the first example of a Cybertecture building that uses architecture and technology to give a wide range of living options for its residents.
The project began in 2009, and was restarted in 2013, and is due for completion this year.
