24 May 2023

UAE has introduced new traffic violations that will see fines of upto $540 (Dh.2000), with vehicles being confiscated for 60 days.

The new rules are aimed at creating order and safety amidst emergencies and extreme weather. As per the new traffic rules, the following will be considered an offence:

Motorists gathering near valleys, flooded areas and dams during rainy season will face fine of Dh.1000, and will receive six black points.

Motorists should ensure not to enter flooded valleys while they overflow with rainwater, irrespective of their danger levels. Doing so, will attract a fine of Dh.2000 and receive 23 black points. They will also have their vehicle impounded for 60 days.

During times of heavy rainfall, it is common for authorities to issue driving alerts in the UAE and advise motorists to stay away from areas prone to flash flooding and disruption on roads.
