RTA announces Rest Stops for delivery bike riders in the UAE

10 March 2023

In a first-of-its kind, the Dubai RTA has called on the UAE business community to bid for construction of three integrated rest stops for delivery motorbike riders in the emirate.

The rest stops would be in three locations – Sheikh Zayed Road near the Festival Plaza at Jebel Ali Village, at Port Saeed adjacent to Al Muraqabat Street 22, and at Ras Al Khor Industrial Area 2 near Al Manama Street.

With this initiative, RTA plans to keep delivery drivers happy, by offering the basic services that they may require including maintenance, refuelling, restaurants and rest areas.

At such facilities, RTA will also provide educational material about public safety and quality regulation.

This project is inline with RTA’s effort to regulate and improve the safety of delivery business, which has grown over the past years. There has been a steady increase in number of delivery service companies in Dubai, which now stands at 2,891 in December 2022, recording a 48.3 percent growth rate, in comparison to 2021. Also, at present there are more than 36 online delivery companies operating through smart platforms and apps.

RTA has plans to construct permanent and temporary rest stops for drivers to keep up with the rapid growth of the sector.

A series of other initiatives too have been launched to improve efficiency and safety in this sector, such as issuance of professional rider certificates, Delivery Service Excellence Award, conducting workshops to familiarize drivers with traffic laws to ensure their safety and the safety of road users.
