The UAE has launched a new service that allows renewal of Emirates ID card and passport from outside UAE.
This much-awaited initiative has been introduced by the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship, Customs and Port Security.
But, one crucial condition that individuals need to meet to avail the service is that the applicant should personally apply for the transaction through the dedicated smart application of the authority, and should ensure that they are indeed the rightful owner of the document.
The Director of Customer Happiness Management at the Federal Authority, Nasser Ahmed Al-Abdouli, emphasized on renewing Emirati ID cards from abroad. The renewal service is being offered by the authority through its smart application.
However, if the request is submitted by the printing centres, or by someone other than the transaction owner within the country, the application will be rejected, if found that the person is outside the UAE.
Further elaborating on the measures involved in renewing ID cards from overseas, Al-Abdouli said that “Individuals residing outside the UAE can access the authority’s smart application on their mobile phones. They can choose the service for renewing ID cards from abroad, submit their application, pay the fees and complete the transaction seamlessly.”
Al-Abdouli has urged one and all to adhere to the guidelines, particularly nationals, when taking a photograph of the documents. It is important to abide by the official dress code.
The nine specific criteria outlined by the authority that needs to be met for acceptance of personal photos through smart app are mentioned below.
- Wear official attire of the UAE
- Allow head coverings as per customs and traditions.
- Use a white background.
- Provide high-quality and latest coloured photo that is not more than six months old (35-40mm)
- Ensure the head is position straight and parallel to the lens of the camera.
- Maintain a neutral facial expression.
- Keep eyes open and do not use coloured contact lenses when facing camera.
- Ensure glasses do not obstruct the eye or cause reflections.
- The image resolution should be at least 600 dots per inch, free from ink marks or wrinkles.
All customers will have to double-check the accuracy and validity of their ID numbers, and expiry dates when applying for renewal or replacement, the authority requested, further adding that the date entered should be verified for accuracy in the electronic form, prior to making payment to avoid delays in processing their transactions.
Additionally, individuals are advised to verify the accuracy of their phone numbers, email addresses, and preferred delivery methods indicated in the electronic form.
