Expo2020 Dubai has achieved its remarkable milestone of 20 million visits this Saturday, the 19th March, just 5 million away from its target of 25 million visit.
Official numbers indicate that 70 percent of guests who visited the expo hail from the UAE. The latest figures indicate that children below age 18 have visited the expo more than 2.8 million times. The historic achievement will be celebrated from 8.30pm on 19th March, with a special project on Al Wasl Dome, coupled with spectacular fireworks.
Dubai’s Expo 2020 showed huge resilience in face of unprecedented challenges, and is one of the biggest events of its kind to be held with Arab World. It has combined educational, cultural and entertainment experiences of 192 countries together to showcase the best that the nations have to offer.
Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President, Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, Chairman and Chief of Emirates Airline and Chairman of Expo 2020 Dubai Higher Committee, commented on this extraordinary achievement and said “When we started this journey in 2013, and even before then as we prepared for the bid for Expo 2020 Dubai, we had a dream to welcome the world to Dubai and the UAE for an unprecedented global gathering that would live long in hearts and minds.”
“The opportunity to safely unite the world in the wake of the pandemic to deliver an experience with real significance is one which we have not taken for granted, and we are thrilled that Expo 2020 Dubai has proved so impressively popular,” said Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, the UAE Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence and Commissioner-general of Expo 2020 Dubai.
He further said that Expo 2020 Dubai has shown exceptional agility and capability in achieving consistent high turnaround amidst global challenges.
Among the forthcoming events at the Expo are ‘Water Week’, the 10th and final expo 2020 Dubai; ‘Theme Week’ from 20th to 26th March. The week forms part of the programme for People and Planet, aimed at exploring the most critical challenges and opportunities of humanity.
Several countries from across the planet will celebrate their Expo 2020 Dubai National Days including Canada on 19th March, Pakistan on 23rd March, South Africa on 28th March and India on 28th March. The Honour Day of the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE), the governing body of World Expos on 30th March.
The Expo 2020 Dubai Run 3 brings down curtain on the highly successful sporting series on 26th March, while the entertainment and events will continue over next few weeks.
