The UAE has approved emergency use of Pfizer-BioNTech Covid Vaccine for the 12 to 15 age group.
In line with the National Covid-19 Vaccination Plan, the Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) has approved emergency use of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine for the 12 to 15 years age group, based on the outcomes of clinical trials that were conducted under strict assessment, and were approved for emergency local use.
The approval supports the national efforts aimed at curbing the spread of Coronavirus pandemic, and protects this age group, which highlights the proactive approach by the UAE to ensure the health and safety of the community.
A free national vaccination campaign for all nationals and residents aimed at curbing the spread of Covid-19 will be launched together by MoHAP, the Department of Health, Abu Dhabi (DoH), the Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre (ADPHC) and the Dubai Health Authority (DHA).
The vaccine was recently cleared for use in adolescents in the age group 12 to 15 years in the US after a trial proved it safe, and claimed 100 percent effectiveness.
Lowering the vaccination age further, follows a series of measures that the UAE has been taking to protect the youth.
In the month of January, the UAE approved the use of the vaccine for teenagers aged 16 and above. Earlier, none under the age 18 were allowed to take the jab.
So far, the total vaccine doses administered in the UAE is 11.4 million. Towards the end of 2021, all those eligible for the vaccine should already have received the jab. The target has been already confirmed by the UAE early this week.
About 72 percent of the eligible population in the country have already been vaccinated ever-since the free vaccination was rolled out late last year.
