The initiative is now extended to all other professional school employees which include Principals, Vice-Principals, Managers working in public and private schools in the UAE.

Al Marar pointed out that the license will allow them to work legally in the UAE.

The Educational Professions Licensure System was introduced by the MoE three years ago inline with the vision of UAE to develop knowledge-based economic and ensure quality education.

One aim of this system is to license all educational professionals based on high standards in pedagogy and subject matter specialisation. According to authorities, introduction of this system ensures best teaching practices by building a pool of capable and skilled education professionals.

“The aspiration of the UAE is to provide world class education and we are investing a lot in uplifting standards. The professional licensing initiative is a step in this direction and it will ensure we have educational professionals with the highest credentials,” Al Marar said.

Once the license becomes a requirement for all educational professionals in the UAE, high performance in education system can be assured of, and the education professionals in the UAE will be competent enough to work anywhere across the globe.

However, if the applicant fails to meet the exam criteria, they will have to undergo training courses to match the level of exam and achieve desirable result.

Teachers and other educational staff applying for this license will have the opportunity to redo any failed assessment, for which they will be given up to two years’ time.

Teachers in the UAE are required to have a minimum qualification of a bachelor’s degree or a four-year university degree or higher in the required field, as stipulated by the MoE.
