Abu Dhabi has rolled out the Al Hosn Green Pass System across several public venues today.

It has been designed to enhance health and safety of general public amidst the Covid-19 pandemic. The system’s implementation may require frequent PCR tests for certain groups of people if they wish to visit tourist attractions, malls, or even restaurants.

The system has been endorsed by the UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP), and complements the current Covid-19 precautionary measures across Abu Dhabi.

The system’s usage was approved on 9th June by the emirate’s Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Committee to ensure safe entry and contact tracing at 11 types of venues and attractions like large supermarkets, shopping malls, public parks, gyms, hotels, swimming pools, beaches, entertainment centres, museums, cinemas, restaurants and cafes.

The Green Pass is available on the UAE’s official vaccine registry -Al Hosn app – which include details about individuals’ vaccination status and PCR tests.

Every user is assigned a colour on the basis of his or her latest Covid-19 PCR test report. Red colour indicates that the individual has contracted Covid-19. Green indicates the person is free from Covid-19, and this is referred to as ‘Green Pass’. The colour will turn to grey when the latest PCR test validity expires.

Pass validity period

Here’s the breakdown of the Green Pass validity period:

30-day validity: This is for individuals who have received their second vaccine dose at least 28 days ago, or who have volunteered in the UAE vaccine trials. However, a PCR test will have to be taken every seven days, as it is necessary to achieve additional active icon – a gold star or letter ‘E’, which is necessary for screening-free travel into the emirate. This is for first category of people.

14-days validity: This is for second category of individuals who have received second dose of Covid-19 vaccine less than 28 days ago.

7-days validity: This is for category3 individuals who have received the first dose of vaccine and are awaiting the appointment for second dose, and for individuals under category 5 individuals who have received vaccine exemption certificates on Al Hosn.
