A new online system to book appointments has helped reduce crowd when applying for passports at the BLS International Centres in the UAE. Also, Indian nationals over 60 years of age, children below 12 years, pregnant women and people of determination have been exempted from physical appearance when applying for passports.
These measures were initiated taking into consideration the current social distancing norms due to COVID-19 pandemic.
Seniors over 60 years and pregnant women can authorize a family member or close relative (by way of authorization letter) to submit passport application form along with relevant documents on their behalf. Pregnant women can authorize their husband to complete official formalities, apart from submitting medical documents confirming the pregnancy.
As for children under 12 years of age, a joint undertaking of both father and mother stating their no-objection needs to be submitted along with passport application form and other relevant documents. Any one parent will have to be present at the BLS Centre.
In the case of people of determination, either father/mother/family member can submit the application form attaching relevant documents, support medical documents/authorization letter as applicable.
The embassy in its statement said that these are temporary measures that will be in place for the above-said category of applicants until the situation improves.
BLS International is the outsourced agency providing Indian visa and passport application processing services. The agency has begun online appointment booking system at all its ten centres. For this, the applicants can visit https://blsindiavisa-uae.com/passport/bookapp.php. Thereafter, select location, date, time of appointment slot, type of service and fill in the necessary details including email, phone and passport numbers.
"Applicants are required to recheck all the details of passport (name, passport number) before confirming appointment, these details cannot be modified once saved and you may have to cancel appointment if the details are incorrect."
For newborn, the passport number of either parent is mandatory. Applicants can book only a single slot per passport.
