Three popular metro stations in Dubai have been renamed by the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).
According to latest announcement by the Dubai RTA, the three metro stations that have been renamed are:
- Sharaf DG metro station has been renamed as ‘Mashreq Metro Station’.
- Palm Deira station is now ‘Gold Souq’.
- Nakheel Harbour and Tower is now ‘Jebel Ali Station’.
The Mashreq Bank has been granted the right to feature its products around the Business Bay and Burj Khalifa station.
The RTA chalked out a plan for finalizing the renaming of the three metro stations between 18th May and 2nd June, said Hassan al Mutawa, Director of Operation at RTA rail agency.
“It involves changing the external signs, updating smart and e-systems of public transport, and updating the audio announcement on board metro cabins. We would like to bring to the attention of Dubai metro riders the changes in names of stations on the modes mentioned above,” the authority said.
The construction theme for the Dubai Metro Stations is the four elements of nature – fire, water, air and earth.
Mashreq Station is an elevated station, with capacity to accommodate about 14,244 riders during peak hours, and daily capacity of 256,392 people.
Jebel Ali Station is a transfer stop between Red Line and Route 2020 with capacity to accommodate 320,000 passengers a day.
Gold Souq Station is an underground station in the old part of city, and can handle 475,488 people on daily basis.
