The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) recently announced launch of ‘Unemployment Insurance Scheme’ for government and private employees.

The launch states that policy compensation would be paid on monthly basis, and calculated at 60 percent of basic salary of the employee, subject to maximum of Dh.20,000 per month, for first quarter from date of unemployment.

Although the new law is not mandatory, it is applicable to all employees in federal and private sectors in the UAE, excluding domestic helpers, investors, retirees and part-time employees with retirement pension, and those below 18 years of age.
