Two Award-winning French plays is set to bring dark wit and turmoil to Dubai this June. ‘Bourgeois Gentilhomme’ and ‘Tailleur Pour Dames’ will hit the stage at the Junction, Alserkal avenue on 14 and 15th June.

Catch a double-bill performance of French plays at The Junction, Alserkal Avenue on 14 and 15th June.
The first show, titled ‘Bourgeois Gentilhomme’ (The Middle Class Gentleman ) is about Mr Jourdain, a wealthy bourgeois who hopes to adopt the mannerisms of high-society people. He orders new coats in the latest fashions and begins to learn fencing, dancing, music and philosophy. His daughter falls in love with a former soldier? Tough — she’ll have to marry a lying, cheating count instead.
First presented in 1670, this play is by acclaimed French playwright Moliere, which satirises bourgeois behaviour and social climbing tendencies.
Based on a book by Georges Feydeau, The second play is ‘Tailleur Pour Dames’ (“Ladies’ Dressmaker") is a a three-act work. This was the first major theatrical success for the playwright released in 1889, during an era known as the Belle Epoque. After initiating a relationship with one of his clients, Dr Moulineaux spirals into a whirlwind of lies and cover-ups. He has to face his wife, his mother-in-law; the husband of his mistress, the lover of the latter was once his. By dint of rebounding everything ends to the general satisfaction. Everyone finds each one.
Both shows will be performed in French language.
