Tony Award nominated play, Venus in Fur, to debut at The Junction this September. H72 presents its next production – David Ives’ “Venus in Fur” – a 90-minute, no-intermission, two-hander starring Osman Aboubakr and Farzana Palathingal, and directed by Juliska Szik.
Set in modern day New York City, the "play-within-a-play" explores the balance of power between the playwright Thomas Novacheck (played by Osan Aboubakr) and actress Vanda Jordan (played by Farzana Palathingal), as they verbally dance around each other in a darkly comic performance based on Leopold von Sacher-Masoch’s 19th century novel 'Venus in Furs'. The play promises to be a gripping and intense experience of theatre in the city at its very best with a powerhouse team behind the production.
The play is embraced by the critics as an "entertaining tour de force", “a seriously smart and very funny stage seminar...", "fascinating viewing" and "...darkly comic and dangerously compelling.” Among its many accolades, this sharp and unexpected showdown of the sexes was nominated for the Best Play Tony Award.
Join local theatre group H72 Productions at the Junction, Al Serkal Avenue – on 7th, 8th, 13th, 14th and 15th September – to watch a topical piece of theatre that pushes the envelope in its examination of gender roles and power.
