Mughal-e-Azam: The Musical - Broadway-style all-singing, all-dancing musical extravaganza of a doomed love affair set in 16th century India during the reign of the Mughal Emperor Akbar comes to the Dubai Community Theatre & Arts Centre (DUCTAC) stage from 3-7 May.
Winner of 7 Broadway World India Awards 2017, including the Best Play, Best Director, Best Original Choreography, Best Original Costume Design, Best Ensemble Cast, Best Original Lighting Design and Best Original Set Design; this masterpiece by Feroz Khan will transform DUCTAC into a Mughal Court. The story of Mughal-e-Azam has seen several film adaptations. However, the most revered one is director K Asif’s 1960 film starring Dilip Kumar and Madhubala in the lead.
The celebrated 16th century tale about the tragic love affair between India’s Mughal ruler Crown Prince Salim and the beautiful, ill-fated court dancer Anarkali will be brought to life in a musical format. The fervor and intensity of the affair perpetrates a war between the prince and his father the great Mughal Emperor Akbar, and threatens to bring an empire to its knees. Director Feroz Abbas Khan spearheads the musical, with Mughal-era costumes designed by Manish Malhotra and choreography led by Mayuri Upadhya.
The family-friendly performance is suitable for children aged six years and above. The doomed romance has all the elements that will see this musical production transform into a soul-stirring spectacle. Tickets for the show range from Dh250 to Dh1,250 and are available online at www.ductac.etixdubai.com.
