Parents of the youngest person to win the Nobel Peace Prize Malala Yousafzai - Ziauddin and Toor Pekai Yousafzai will share moving anecdotes of immense courage in the effort to support their daughter's future at this year's Emirates Airline Festival of Literature on 7th February.
She survived an assassination attempt by the Taliban. Yousafzai became an advocate for girls' education when she herself was still a child, which resulted in the Taliban issuing a death threat against her. On October 9, 2012, a gunman shot Yousafzai when she was traveling home from school. She survived and has continued to speak out on the importance of education.
In 2013, she gave a speech to the United Nations and published her first book, I Am Malala. Malala Yousafzai became the youngest recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize, which she was awarded in 2014.
Ziauddin, the co-author of autobiography Let Her Fly, will speak to his part in battling gender norms and giving Malala the right to education. Mother Toor Pekai will express her emotions with her side of the story – one seldom heard by the public.
