Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon 2016

Having completed 15 successful years, the Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon will be back with its next edition in 2016, marking the beginning of a sports year in Dubai's event calendar. The marathon is always scheduled so as to take advantage of the cool winter temperature in Dubai.

Held under the patronage of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum, the Prime Minister and Vice President of UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon 2015 was held on Friday, the 23rd January 2015.

Being one of the most prestigious marathons in the UAE and the most popular marathon in the region, runners from across the globe compete in Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon. The marathon is appealing to all members of the community alike, whether it is those who come just to watch and support the runners, or the international athletes who compete to win the race and beat the track and world marathon records.

The races will begin on the Umm Suqeim Road opposite Madinat Jumeirah in the shadow of iconic Burj Al Arab and will finish at Dubai Police Academy at Umm Suqeim Road.

Registration for the next year event is available online with a deadline of 31st December 2015. All participants are required to collect their run number by providing identity proof. The race will be timed using the ‘Mika Tag’ electronic timing system.

The Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon offers Group category for companies to participate in – the corporate challenge and team challenge. The corporate challenge permits to take competitiveness outside domains of office while also adding fun and spontaneity among colleagues. To be part of corporate challenge from any company, a minimum of 3 participants are required for the 42K race and minimum of five participants for 10K race. The team challenge requires the largest team entry from any one group, and minimum of 3 from each team should complete the marathon course.

The 42km race is open to those 18 years and over, while the 10km race is for those 15years and more, and 4km fun run is open to all. Prize Money would be in the range USD 8000 to USD 200,000.

Drink stations would be installed every 2.5kms from 5km until 40km at the finish. Sponges will be provided at stations, toilet, medical and baggage facility will be available. There will also be entertainment stuff like live bands and a selection of other activities to entertain participants and spectators. Food and Beverage facilities will also be available at the Marathon Village.

Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon has proven that it is perfect for fast times, particularly over the past three editions when several youngsters made an instant impact on their marathon debuts.
