Dubai Traditional Rowing Race: Heat 1

The First round of thrill-packed 30ft wooden rowing boat race will see several boats plying the seas offshore Dubai, near Dubai International Marine Club (DIMC) at Mina Seyahi on 19th October.

The event is the perfect way to see just how fast these boats can go as they fill the Arabian Gulf with their white sails. Teams of ten will compete in 30-foot long wooden boats similar to those used for fishing and pearl diving. The heavy boats take a lot of strength to get going off the start line and then a lot of endurance is needed to complete the course of up to almost 3 NM.

Previous years has seen around 100 boats enter the championship, making it a spectacle to watch.
DIMC proudly organizes the waterborne racing series to encourage sporting excellence and to take advantage of Dubai's extended coastline. The rowing races attract around 25 or more of the traditional wooden-hulled craft, while the dhow races can involve up to 100 crafts.

This is the First of the four rounds of the championship and trophies will be awarded to winners, including prize money as an added incentive. The course is set from inside the Palm Jumeirah to finish in the lagoon at DIMC.
