The Emiratis take great pride in participating in this Dhow Race as it reminds them of the days when pearl diving was a key occupation. By partaking in the race, younger generations are making a commendable contribution in keeping the skills & traditions alive whilst extolling their forefathers.
Since 1991, the Al Gaffal Race has been a highlight of Dubai's watersports calendar. This dhow race for 60ft (18m) ships is a source of great pride for all those who take part. The race starts at the desolate Sir Bu Nair Island, heads east for 23 maritime miles to an important check-point at Moon Island, before terminating at the spectacular Burj Al Arab hotel.
The benefit is that this vivacious race is free to watch. You can cherish the enthralling view of white sails crowding the Persian Gulf from the shore or by booking a seat on exclusively chartered Dubai Ferri rides.
While the race is scheduled to kick start at 5:30 a.m., the schedule may vary according to the weather conditions. You may keep yourself updated with the event details by referring to Dubai Tourism Information given on trusted sites.
