What better way to take advantage of Dubai’s extended coastline than at a good old fashioned dhow race? The Dubai International Marine Club (DIMC) will be organizing the second round of the 30ft (9m) Dubai Traditional Dhow Sailing Race on 12th October.

The event is free to watch, and is the perfect way to see just how fast these boats can go as they fill the Arabian gulf with their white sails. Previous years has seen around 100 boats enter the championship, making it a spectacle to watch.

Founded in 1988, DIMC proudly organises the waterborne racing series to encourage sporting excellence and to take advantage of Dubai's lengthy coastline. The events shine a light on traditional ways of life, while also showcasing some of the latest technologies in ocean sports. The prestigious club hosts an annual season of ocean-going sports activities, with this event marking the second traditional rowing race in a series of four heats, culminating in a contest to take the renowned Maktoum Cup in December.

Witness crews of 10 people battle against other teams in traditional 30ft long wooden rowing boats, to try and win the prestigious Maktoum Cup.
