The Nad Al Sheba Sports Tournament was created for attracting male and female athletes from different countries, irrespective of being able-bodied or disabled, to compete in Exciting sporting events during Ramadan to keep their body and mind sharp. Organised by Dubai sports council, the event was inaugurated on 28th May by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of Mohammed bin Rashid Knowledge Foundation and President of the UAE National Olympic Committee His Highness Sheikh Ahmad Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

This year’s tournament is being held under a new theme ‘Limitless Abilities’ in keeping with the added emphasis being laid on sports and sporting events for special needs athletes. NAS has successfully raised awareness about the capabilities of people with disabilities— in the last four years— by merging them with athletes in a competitive sports environment. This year’s NAS Ramadan Sports Tournament consists of nine sporting disciplines with a total prize fund of more than Dh6 million. Three new sporting disciplines such as fencing, a fitness challenge and football for the deaf have been added along with the other competitions like paddle tennis, volleyball, archery, wheelchair basketball, road runs and road cycling.

The Dubai Health Authority (DHA) also participates at the Nad Al Sheba Sports Tournament (NAS) throughout the holy month of Ramadan. There will be a total of 24 doctors and 48 nurses will be stationed at NAS to provide the public with health treatment and awareness, while they take part in the different sports activities available at the stand and the tournament. The Medical team will be stationed at NAS to provide medical care at the tournament from 8:30 am to 1:30 pm.

At the event, DHA is holding fun sport activities to raise awareness about the importance of exercising. Among these activities is the smart cycling competition where the public can compete to see which person can cycle the fastest and burn the most calories.
