Three Rock legends up close and personal for one incredible night filled with music and fantastic life stories when they come to Dubai Opera on Thursday 20 September 2018. ‘Never Mind the Opera’, taking place on September 20, will feature a lineup of artists who, back in their heyday, would never be caught dead inside a venue as swanky as Dubai’s opera house.
Headlining the evening will be a veritable punk supergroup featuring bass player and founding Sex Pistols member, Glen Matlock performing alongside legendary Stray Cats drummer Slim Jim Phantom and guitarist Chris Spedding.
Also taking to the stage will be guitarist and vocalist Hugh Cornwell, whose punk rock riffs are sure to impress fans with a dose of nostalgia. Hugh Cornwell - ex Stranglers main man, one of the UK’s most underrated ’70s punk bands, best known for their 1981 hit ‘Golden Brown’. The band may not be exactly punk, but they did get banned from New Zealand and his band playing this kind of thing; then Glen Matlock, one of rock’s most iconic figures, bass player, founding member and songwriter for the iconic Sex Pistols.
Then see, Slim Jim Phantom, true rock-n-roll icon and the legendary drummer for the Stray Cats along with guitarist ace Chris Spedding, as they regale you with stories and an unforgettable set. It’s a slightly silly name for the show, but Cornwell and Matlock have played together and separately on the same bill a lot over the last few years, even sharing band members; at the very least it should be an interesting evening, and for some of us a tad nostalgic too
Get up close and personal with the rock music icons over a night peppered with tales from each of the legendary musos from a bygone era and an unforgettable music.
