Dubai, get ready for Matilda!

Matilda, Miss Honey, Miss Trunchbull and the rest of the cast will be making their way to the stage at Dubai Opera.

Matilda the Musical, the multi-award-winning performance by The Royal Shakespeare Company will be heading to Dubai Opera for ten days from Tuesday, October 3 to 12.

The London-born West End musical is coming to the Middle East for the first time in October. Running from Tuesday October 3 to Thursday October 12 tickets start from Dhs325 and can be booked on the Dubai Opera website.

First performed in 2010, the musical has won several awards. With music by Tim Minchin and playwriting by Dennis Kelly, it has found a huge following. So much so, that made its way to Broadway in 2013 and Netflix turned it into a film that was released in December of last year.

Based on Roald Dahl’s timeless book, Matilda is the story of a five-year-old girl with telekinesis powers and a huge IQ. While her family are indifferent to her, Matilda is encouraged by her kind teacher Miss Honey and goes up against the evil headmistress Miss Trunchbull.

Throughout its 12 years on the West End stage, Matilda the Musical has won seven Olivier Awards which is the highest number for any show. These included Best New Musical, Best Director, Best Actor in a Musical, Best Actress in a Musical, Best Theatre Choreographer, Best Set Design and Best Sound Design.

The sensational orchestrations you will hear are produced by Tony Award winner Christopher Nightingale. The set is equally thrilling with set designs and costumes created by yet another Tony Award recipient, Rob Howell.
