Cinema Akil, Dubai’s only independent cinema, has announced the exclusive release of Academy Award nominee ‘The Man Who Sold His Skin’ directed by Kaouther Ben Hania.
The film weaves socio-political issues, including the refugee crisis and human rights concerns, while also touching on the world of contemporary art, and the contradictions in between.
The film stars Syrian actor Yahya Mahayni, French actress Dea Liane, Belgian actor Koen De Bouw and Italian starlet Monica Bellucci.
The thrilling and thought-provoking drama, which is based on a true story, was nominated for Best International Feature Film at this year's Academy Awards.
It tells the tale of Sam Ali, a Syrian refugee living in Lebanon, who wishes to travel to Europe and be reunited with the love of his life. He agrees to have a visa drawn on to his back by a controversial artist, which lets him travel and be displayed in museums and galleries. However, he soon comes to realise that being turned into a work of art may have cost him his freedom.
