It's always great to see new initiatives that connect enthusiasts from different fields and link the community closer. UAE based 'Surf House Dubai' has long been a hub for surf and stand up paddle lovers and boasts over 3000 members from around the country. Now the popular Jumeirah Beach Surf Shop is taking things further by introducing "UAE's 1st Annual Ocean Film Festival” which is set to take place on November 24 this year.
Prepare to explore the ocean from a new vantage point with a day of sea-inspired activities, such as a DIY string art workshop led by Turquoise Boutique Studio, an installation by artist Mariam Ketait, a photography and art exhibit by James Harvey and Pyong Sumaria, Al Rowaiha–a meditation chair inspired by Emirati heritage. At 6pm, the film festival will kick off with a special screening of "Andy Irons: Kissed by God,” a critically acclaimed documentary about three-time world champion surfer Andy Iron and his battle with personal struggles.
The festival will focus on an original look at our seas through different lenses and multiple shorelines - both regional and abroad. Surf House Dubai has invited filmmakers to submit films 2-7 minutes in length with a focus on the ocean - including marine life, water-sports and other related topics earlier this year. Application deadline is closed on November 17.
Single Fin Dubai is catering a special cinema menu during the event, and each order wins you a raffle ticket. So, while Film Festival participants receive trophies for their work, visitors can enjoy good food and grand prizes from the lucky draw.
