Dubai Culture & Arts Authority (Dubai Culture), the Emirate’s dedicated entity for culture, arts and heritage, inaugurated the latest edition of its ‘Live our Heritage Festival’ on 14th April. which will run under the theme ‘UAE Folk Arts’ from 14 to 20 April 2017 at Mirdif City Centre.
The ‘Live Our Heritage Festival’ invites visitors to take part in various traditional programmes while also learning about the nation’s development through the ages. Its programme includes a permanent exhibition of folk art instruments, an open stage for competitions and sessions and a section showcasing local crafts. Each day of the festival focuses on a specific theme such as ‘Al Liwa’ folk dance, ‘Al Andima’ maritime folk and ‘Al Ayala’ providing folk artists with a variety of opportunities to showcase their talent. Dedicated sessions hosted with folk dance specialists will also offer visitors a deeper insight into the culture and beauty of this art form. The festival will also feature a reading corner including a collection of books for both adults and children, and will host activities for children to promote reading, creativity and sharing knowledge.
The ‘Live our Heritage Festival’ has secured both support and sponsorship from many governmental and private sector parties including folk arts associations, Dubai Heritage Development Centres managed by the Authority, and Al-Futtaim Group. The festival aims to raise awareness of UAE heritage across the Emirate’s communities, and serves to promote the values and traditions of the Founding Fathers among the younger generation, visitors and residents.
