Gulf Photo Plus (GPP), Dubai’s premier centre for photography, has announced its highly anticipated return with the 15th edition of GPP Photo Week, the longest-running international photography event in the Middle East. GPP Photo Week 2019’s schedule of workshops, talks, photo walks, exhibitions and special events is set to kick off on February 4th and will run until February 9th.
Launched 15 years ago, this is a forum for photography enthusiasts to come together, improve their skills and engage with photography as an art form. It features workshops for all skill levels as well as talks, discussions, photo walks, exhibitions, portfolio reviews and other special events led by well-known professional photographers from around the world.
Centred on the theme of Get Closer, GPP Photo Week will include a series of workshops and seminars by internationally renowned photographers Zack Arias, Maciej Dakowicz, Nick Fancher, Tanya Habjouqa, Mike Kelly, Sara Lando, Asim Rafiqui and Paolo Verzone. The workshops are available to photographers of all skill levels and cover a series of topics including Street, Commercial & Fine Art photography. In addition to Valentina Vee’s series of video workshops that cover all of the fundamentals of videography for those interested in the format’s growing importance in the current media landscape.
One of the biggest days in the week is the ever-popular Fujifilm Photo Friday that will also make its return on Friday 8 February, providing photographers with a series of workshops, talks and events through an all-day pass. Aspiring photographers should jump in on the number of sessions organised to improve their skills, from lighting and staging to tips on how to get paid for their work. Expect free camera cleaning services, avail exclusive offers from top camera brands and enjoy the spread of food trucks and live music while you’re there.
Also making their returns are the GPP Trade Show and The ShootOut. The GPP Trade Show is an exhibition of all of the latest photography gear by industry manufacturers such as Canon and Sony, who will also provide attendees with special offers and free camera cleaning services.
The event will close with the exciting GPP ShootOut, which is the traditional curtain closer of GPP Photo Week, where three professional photographers will race against the clock in front of a live audience to create an image based on an assigned theme, and the winner will be decided by an audience vote.
Every year, GPP Photo Week creates an accessible entry point into the world of photography for people from all backgrounds. The event provides attendees with a holistic photography experience, giving photographers - professionals, amateurs, and enthusiasts alike - an opportunity to engage with photography as an art form while immersing themselves in Dubai’s burgeoning art scene and forging new connections with fellow photographers and teachers from around the world.
Some of the happenings are free, but most are charged for – notably the good quality workshops and seminars.
