The art of the raconteur may be usually disregarded in a world of superheroes and CGI, but Peter Searles will restore your faith in the ability to communicate with words. Catch Peter Searles, one of the finest raconteurs around, share the tales of his travels to the Atacama Desert in Chile in a fascinating one-man show on 3 December.
British actor and writer Peter Searles, a veteran of stage, screen, and BBC television and radio, gives an intensely dramatic and frequently hilarious account of his journey from the scorching wastes of the Atacama Desert in northern Chile to the smog-laden cities and shantytowns of the south, to a world of volcanoes, forests and lakes.
His writing credits include the award-nominated Forest People which he co-wrote with Douglas Hodge for BBC TV and Five Smooth Stones for The Bush Theatre; His numerous directing credits include Fibber In the Heat with comedian/actor Miles Jupp.
Peter is best known for his repertoire of comedic one-man shows – he most recently performed his award-winning Edinburgh show Sex, Lies and a DVD (previously titled Sex… with Pete Searles) on Broadway and at NYU’s Tisch School of Performing Arts.
Searles has toured in the past ten years for his internationally-acclaimed trilogy of one-man shows about his extraordinary South American odyssey throughout the UK, the US, Europe, Far East, Ireland and Bermuda.
This show has won rave reviews in the British press following its UK tour, so make sure you catch his one-off performance when he stops by Dubai. This is a sort-of stand up comedy show, except that it’s basically a retelling of the events that befell him when Searles – then an out-of-work actor – decided to buy a ticket to South America. A travel budget of $5 a day contributes to the experience, but not as much as the catalogue of mishaps, the galaxy of characters he encountered, and the crocodiles, jaguars and giant centipedes.
