Dubai Opera is teaming up with Shanghai Opera House to put on Puccini’s spectacular masterpiece, Turandot. Puccini’s final opera arguably features the most famous tenor aria in the opera repertoire, the iconic “Nessun Dorma”, an instantly recognisable piece of music.
Set in ancient Peking, a beautiful, icy Princess Turandot has invited any man to solve three riddles. All those who fail face grave punishment, but the one who succeeds can marry the beautiful princess. Many men fall short of the task until a clever Prince eager to win over the Princess Turandot arrives. He solves her trio of challenges and then offers Turandot his life if she can solve the riddle of his name.
Will true love be enough to soften the resentful princess’ heart?
This magnificent version of Turandot, under the direction of Roberto Andò, was held as the first new opera production of Shanghai Opera House’s 2018 Season, receiving wide acclaim. this production consist of more than 200 artists and turns the legend between eastern and western cultures into a test of fear and love.
