After a long wait, grudges being put aside and friends coming back together, we have the first ever Junoon concert, after 13 long years, just round the corner.

Residents of Karachi, Pakistan, already witnessed the biggest band from South Asia come together after 13 years. The popular Sufi rock band performed at their ‘Reunion Concert’ and social media users in the country flooded various platforms with pictures and videos from the performance.

After much speculation, rumours and conversations over the past decade, on whether fans would ever get to see the Pakistani rock legends perform again, the concert was confirmed in August. And that’s not it. Members Ali Azmat, Salman Ahmad and Brian O’Connell will be heading to Dubai in January for their next concert.

Hailed as the U2 of South Asia by New York Times, Junoon was one of the biggest bands in Pakistan back in its time. The band comprised of Ali Azmat, Salman Ahmed and Brian O’Connell. The trio of these rockstars delivered a number of hits including but not limited to as Sayonee, Yaar Bina Dil, Sajna, amongst others. Despite breaking up in 2005, Junoon continues to have be an authoritative figure in rock music in South Asia, inspiring countless bands in its wake and contributing to the region’s music genealogy with reverential poetry and patriotic anthems. People still revere Junoon for its redefinition of rock in Pakistan and are looking forward to the reunion concert more than ever now!

Their performance in Karachi, at the Moin Khan Academy, was a night of classics and fond memories. The concert began with the song ‘Jazba Junoon’ and many tweeps from the country were seen reminiscing their favourite songs online. Many Pakistani celebrities and actors were also spotted at the concert, including former cricketer Wasim Akram, Ayesha Omar, Ainy Jaffri and Ali Rehman Khan. All of them also shared clips from the concert on their respective Instagram and Twitter accounts.

When asked by fans, Salman Ahmed also confirmed that the band would not just be getting together to rehash their old songs, but is working on new music. He said, however, that the new music would come after their reunion concert. This could mean that they could either debut a new song at their reunion concert, or even just tease one or two if they are working on a new album.
