As the UAE commemorated its Golden Jubilee in full-swing, the National Day celebrations are far from over. Although there’s been a lot to celebrate in every nook and corner of the city, in the middle of these ceremonies is also a multisensory theatrical experience that has come to the city’s modern art hub — Dubai Opera.
Dubai Opera will host 50 For 50, an immersive, multi-media exhibition featuring 50 landscape paintings of the UAE by Ella Spira MBE, who resides between Dubai and London.
The art series, painted by Spira, a Grammy-nominated composer and painter, is a legacy honouring the United Arab Emirates 50 years of formation, embracing its rich history, natural beauty and unique achievements.
Embracing the country’s natural heritage and celebrating it through a distinct gaze — one that infuses an outsider’s perspective with lived in experiences — the artwork is a culmination of Ella’s UAE travels.
Produced by innovative art production company Sisters Grimm, 50 For 50 is the culmination of Spira’s travels across the UAE, with the paintings created in situ over the past 18 months.
The series depicts the story of a land which has not only inspired unity and collaboration within its community but has also been dramatically transformed by industry.
With the aim of showcasing a hidden side of the UAE, 50 For 50 will tour internationally following its premiere in Dubai, including to London and New York.
The 50 For 50 series at Dubai Opera concludes with the world premiere of Daughters of the Wind Overture, a Sisters Grimm film, which is a theatrical production company co-founded by the composer and former Royal Ballet ballerina Pietra De Mello-Pittman.
