Zia Mohyeddin

Zia Mohyeddin, the winner of Year 2002 Sitar-i-Imtiaz award, a coveted civilian honour of Pakistan, will take the stage at the prestigious Madinat Theater, Souk Madinat Jumeirah, on 29th November for an evening of sublime prose and poetry. He will also be honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award on the same night for his contribution to his native cultural scene.

Brought to Dubai by Poetic Strokes and well-known event organizer Ambika Vohra, this one-of-a-kind event is being held under the canopy of Sounds of the Soil – a series of creative collaborations that are designed to bring the finest classical entertainment for the UAE’s discerning audience. These include musical evenings, art and culture talks, poetry recitals, book readings, theatre and dance.

Zia Mohyeddin, who studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London, rose to prominence as an actor in the 1960s on Broadway theatre. He has appeared in films and TV in Pakistan and Britain, making his film debut in the 1962 film ‘Lawrence of Arabia’. He made many stage appearances in London and New York both in classical and contemporary works notably Mosca in Valpone and Shylock in The Merchant of Venice. Mohyeddin is revered for his readings of Urdu letters and literature. Credited with taking the art of recitation to unprecedented heights, his performance, which will include narration of poetry and prose, like a judicious mixture of old, seasoned wood and warm honey, along with flawless diction, intonation and pronunciation, is certain to captivate and delight Dubai’s discerning audience.
