Dubai is ready to welcome back medical tourists from across the world, as the industry aims to attract 500,000 tourists this year, a top health official revealed on Wednesday.
The CEO for Health Regulations at the Dubai Health Authority (DHA). Dr. Marwan Al Mulla mentioned that the emirate is well-prepared to provide an unparalleled health tourism experience as the world continues to fight Covid-19.
The strong coordination between public and private health sectors have helped Dubai in fighting the spread of COVID-19, with the emirate being able to quickly adapt to the new normal, said Dr. Al Mulla during a press briefing yesterday.
Dubai has already opened its borders and has begun receiving tourists since 7th July, with clear health protocols in place.
"With over four million PCR tests conducted across the UAE (of which 950,000 were done in Dubai), over 100 field campaigns, 9,000 healthcare professionals who worked around the clock ... we were able to keep our fatality rate at less than 0.6 per cent and our recovery rate over 80 per cent," the DHA official said.
The high recovery rate among Covid-19 patients has actually placed Dubai healthcare in the global spotlight, as discussed by the panellists at the recent virtual meet titled “Dubai leads the great comeback.”
The recent numbers of Covid-19 cases in the UAE has seen a sharp decline from the peak of 900 per day in the month of May this year. The latest tally in the country recorded 305 new cases as of Tuesday, with 343 recoveries, and over 40,000 additional tests conducted. The number of active cases at present are 7,193.
