7 permitted categories for travel abroad by the UAE

02 July 2020

The National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA) has specified seven reasons for which UAE nationals and residents can travel abroad.

Travellers can request for a permit through the ‘exit registration service’ by visiting the link https://beta.smartservices.ica.gov.ae/echannels/web/client/guest/index.html#/serviceCards/718?administrativeRegionId=1 launched by the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship (ICA) on its website.

According to NCEMA, the categories that are permitted are:

  1. Education
  2. Medical Treatment
  3. Diplomatic Mission
  4. Official government business
  5. Private sector business
  6. Business travel for people in commercial and economic sectors
  7. UAE residents seeking to visit their home countries and return to the UAE

Leisure travel not allowed

The authority emphasized that travel for leisure or tourism would not be permitted at present. Only essential travel would be allowed as mentioned above. However, applications may be considered on a case-by-case basis based on the risk levels and health status in other countries.

Supporting documents for travel:

All applications should be supported with relevant documents including Residency Permit Copy, Emirates ID copy, Valid Passport Copy and Proof of reason or departure.

The authority also confirmed yesterday that residents should produce a negative Covid-19 test result for travel.

The Official spokesperson at NCEMA, Dr. Seif Al Dhaheri said “We are at a critical stage, which requires everyone’s commitment and cooperation.”
