Dubai grants free 30-day alcohol licence to Non-Muslim tourists

12 July 2019

Tourists visiting Dubai are now offered a free 30-day alcohol license, according to the latest move that ensures visitors will not be penalised for breaking the law. The free alcohol tourist license is, however, valid only to non-Muslim visitors who are 21 years and over.

The Alcohol retail outlet Maritime and Mercantile International (MMI), a subsidiary of Emirates Group, has a separate segment on its website that instructs tourists on the process of applying for the license.  It instructs tourists to visit any MMI store with their passport and complete a form confirming that the buyer is a tourist.

Thereafter, the store will take a copy of the passport and the entry stamp and will issue guidelines to every visitor.

At present, the resident visa holders in Dubai are eligible for a two-year alcohol license, which allows them to purchase alcohol from shops and store it at home. Also, anyone drinking in the bars and restaurants in the city, should ideally possess a licence, although they do not ask to seek one.
