Dubai Duty Free stores now accepting Indian Currency for transactions

Now, you can use the Indian rupee for your financial transactions at the Dubai Duty Free stores, as starting 1st July this year, all Dubai Duty Free stores have begun accepting the Indian currency for financial transactions. The Indian Rupee is the sixteenth foreign currency to be accepted at the Dubai Duty Free.

The Duty Free officials, confirming the news, said that the Dubai Duty Free began accepting the Indian Rupee on 1st July, and the rupee will be accepted in all Point of Sales (POS) of Dubai Duty Free in Terminal 1, Terminal 2, and Terminal 3 of the Dubai International Airport and in Al Maktoum International Airport.

They further mentioned that at present, denominations of 100s, 200s, 500s *(the new one, as the earlier one is out of circulation) and the 2000s are being accepted.

The officials also said that when paying Indian rupee, the change will be in UAE dirham, as at present only US Dollar, Euro and Sterling Pound are being exchanged in the same currency.

Last year, the Dubai Duty Free recorded an annual sale of USD2.015 billion with Indian passengers accounting for 18 percent of its business. The Dubai Duty Free employs over 6000 staff hailing from 47 different countries, with Indians being the second biggest group of employees.
