The Dubai Tennis Championship, also known as the Dubai
Duty Free Men's and Women's Open was held from February 20, 2006
to March 4, 2006.
This is the biggest tennis event in the Middle East and matches
took place in the Dubai Tennis Stadium. The $1,000,000 Dubai Duty
Free Women's Open featured six Grand Slam champions with the 14th
ATP tournament with the same prize value following it soon.
It is to be noted that though the 2006 event attracted the best
line-up ever, the organizers made certain to freeze ticket prizes
at the 2004-2005 levels.

Winner of the 2006 Women's Open was Justine Henin-Hardenne (Maria
Sharapova, runner up). The 2006 Men's Open champion was Rafael
Nadal (Roger Federer, runner up)
The 2007 event will be from 19-25 February (Dubai Duty Free Women's
Open) and from 26 February - 3 March (Dubai Duty Free Men's Open).
The Dubai Tennis Championship is owned and organized by Dubai
Duty Free and takes place under the patronage of His Highness
Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime
Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai.
The event has won a total of 12 ATP/WTA awards including the
Tournament of the Year award from the WTA in 2001 following the
inaugural Dubai Duty Free Women's Open, and the equivalent award
from the ATP in 1998, 2003 and 2004 for the Dubai Duty Free Men's
Open.
